Original artwork made for your project
Illustration is bought on style first. Two artists can nail the same brief in completely different worlds, so a portfolio matters more than a spec sheet. Find the one whose existing work already looks like what you want.
Scope drives price: a single spot illustration is quick, a full children's book or a character with a range of poses and expressions is a body of work delivered over weeks.
Usage rights are the part people forget. Agree upfront where the art can be used and whether ownership transfers to you, commercial use, print runs, and merchandise are worth pinning down before work starts.
Good illustrators work in stages: rough sketches, then line, then colour. Agree revisions at the sketch stage where changes are cheap, and hold payment in escrow until the final files are delivered.
- Character and mascot design
